I love the variety of interesting and colorful stamps the U.S. Postal Service sells. My husband couldn’t care less. He comes back from the post office with rolls of Forever Flag stamps every time. Boring! I want to view all the choices and select the ones that appeal to me the most.
So now that you know how much I enjoy the selection process you will understand that when it came time to purchase stamps for the convention I just couldn’t make myself buy those boring rolls of flag stamps. As you can see, I went all out and got a huge variety of First Class Forever stamps. Shopping online at USPS.com makes it so easy to see everything available and they deliver it to your mailbox.
Next problem - math skills! I've got to sort these into bags of 500. Not problematic if they were all on sheets of 20. In my excitement over selecting a unique assortment I also picked sheets containing 4, 6, 10, 12, 16 and 24 stamps.
Any Elvis fans out there? You may really like the guy when I tell you how he threw me for a loop. There are 16 Elvis stamps to a sheet, but for some reason I had it in my head that he was on a 12-count sheet. Sooooo, any packages containing Elvis stamps may just have a few extra for that recipient. I did catch my mistake halfway through the process, but was too tired at that point to go back and recount.
Being in charge of a convention means that I get to do things my way. After seeing all of these stamps spread across my coffee table, I just had to do one bag with one of each and every stamp I purchased. That put it way over 500 stamps, so that bag will be the Grand Prize in the stamp drawings. I think the official count was well over 600 stamps which will go to the first person whose name is drawn. Of course, I may have to purchase more stamps as I see more entries come in for the Upgrade stamp drawing. If that happens, the Grand Prize may continue to grow.
These bags contain a huge variety of stamps and no two bags are the same. If you win one of them on the cruise you may want to meet up with the other winners to trade stamps. I can see it now...I'll trade you Wonder Woman for the Medal of Honor or how bout World's Fair for Black History stamps?. Better yet, who'll sing "on the good ship Lollipop..." for a sheet of Shirley Temple!
We are going to have so much fun on this cruise! I can't wait to see all of you in Miami!
